Happy STEM Day!

What is STEM Day?

STEM/STEM Day falls on November 8. Today we celebrate the progress that STEM has made in our daily lives and encourage everyone to develop skills in STEM through education and experience.

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. These four fields share an emphasis on innovation, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Together they make up a popular and fast-growing industry. Most STEM workers use computers and other technology in their day-to-day jobs. Getting a STEM education is one of the best investments you can make for yourself or your children. STEM professionals are well paid and highly sought after. Canada has a critical shortage of STEM professionals and those with STEM education and work experience have priority in immigrating to Canada.

STEM College and University Programs in Canada

In Canada, you can choose from either college or universit studies to get a quality STEM education. College courses are often shorter and focused on hands-on, technical skills. You will receive a certificate or diploma upon completion. Universities offer more academic and research-based programs. You will receive a Bachelor’s, Masters or PhD degree. Either a STEM college or university program will help prepare you for a STEM career.

Study while you work in Canada

Many Canadian schools have strong industry ties. You will be able to network and participate in co-op and internship opportunities. You can get relevant work experience while studying. This helps prepare you for a STEM career upon graduation. If you get your study permit approved before Dec 31, 2023, you will also have no restrictions on the number of hours that you can work during academic term. The usual restriction of working 20 hours per week during academic term has been temporarily removed because of the severe labor shortage in Canada.
